Where are our boundaries?

We need boundaries. But we also need to know what shapes them.

Without some form of constraint, we would wander aimlessly. At first, it might feel like freedom, but it gets tiring after a while.

Boundaries can frame our sense of meaning. This is who I am because this is where I am.

However, some of our boundaries are self-imposed. And when we look closely, what do we see?

Sometimes we see our fears, our feelings of inadequacy. Close it in, where we feel safer.

We might also hear the voice of another: ‘don’t go too far now.’ Or ‘that’s not for you.’ So we don’t.

The truth is we can only see where our boundaries are – perceived or otherwise – if we get up close. It’s easy to lose our sense of perspective at a distance.
