What we need is here

What a wonderful invitation to quieten down, to stop and look. To see again what is before us and enter.

Walking with Wendell Berry’s poem has shifted my perspective over the last few days.

What we need is here. It’s not gone.

It is within us and between us.

And there is no need to play the ‘If only…’ game.

Geese appear high over us,
pass, and the sky closes. Abandon,
as in love or sleep, holds
them to their way, clear
in the ancient faith: what we need
is here. And we pray, not
for new earth or heaven, but to be
quiet in heart, and in eye,
clear. What we need is here.
