What do we expect to see?

Wandering without an agenda, even for a few minutes, lets us notice what we might otherwise miss.

A SINGLE ACORN

One, just one
when last year, there
were multitudes,
so many I couldn’t walk
without crushing some.

One, just one,
not a deficit, but more
rebalancing the
scales of the years.
Weighing out time.

One, just one
enough to pay attention,
to ponder without
being overwhelmed.
And notice.

+ Sue Heatherington

Of course, I might be too early for the acorns. Yet, looking up into the trees, I’m not expecting last year’s bumper harvest.

Where else do I have expectations that I need to be open to wander with?
