We’re not very good at waiting…

We don’t like waiting.

Or, if we decide to comply, we usually set limits.

This long and no longer.

Yet the earth isn’t like this.

We don’t control when the sun rises.

Nor when its rays reach a sheltered frosty hollow.

It might never reach here. At least not today.

I wonder, what difference would it make to us to wait as long as it takes?

What is being transfigured here is your mind
And it is difficult and slow to become new,
The more faithfully you can endure here,
The more refined your heart will become
For your arrival in the new dawn.

+ John O’Donohue, last verse from his blessing: For the Interim Time
