Memories are such important navigational tools. Without them, we have to re-interpret where we are all the time. And that would be utterly exhausting.
They help us see ‘this is like that’ or ‘this is why it’s important to me’. They form a crucial aspect of our meaning-making.
But they can also shackle us if we rely on them blindly.
This may not be like that… but our emotions trigger a response that tells us it is.
And what underpins our why might be based on false assumptions.
Our stories are living. They grow and change over time if we give them space to breathe.
