Rumours of light

Here at the end of a long week, not looking for quick fixes or sugar-coated hope, I went in search of a poem.

Here is the back cover of Gideon Heugh’s new book of poetry, Rumours of Light.

And here is a place to sit awhile and let its gentle light seep into our souls.

RUMOURS OF LIGHT

The hope that’s lingering
beneath the dark horizon;
the hallowed spark hiding
within the folds of the night;
the breath of wonder poised
above our aching souls.

These bitter-beautiful mysteries.
These dreams of dawnsong
swimming through the trees.
These strange rumours of light.

Here, we cannot see the dawn because of the valley’s orientation. But we sometimes have awesome sunsets.
