On seeing in the quietness

Appreciating a quiet moment after a day of shearing the alpacas, I lay in the long grass.

Rolling over, I saw this flowering plantain.

And it reminded me of William Blake’s opening words in Auguries of Innocence:

To see a World in a Grain of Sand
And Heaven in a Wild Flower
Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand
And Eternity in an hour…

I wonder how much we lose when we try to take in everything … and only see the surface.
