In the early rays of autumn

It’s hard to capture the nutty smells of early autumn.

Or the warm ripeness of plump blackberries after they’ve been basking in the sun.

And the shafts of light, lower in the clear sky, that pick out the rich colours we only see at this time of year.

Yet it is this time, now, for settling into a new rhythm.

And seeing with gentler eyes a different kind of harvest.
