Consciously seeing

We unconsciously see all the time. Cruising our way around because we know what we’re expecting. And it’s usually so apparently predictable that we don’t even think about it.

Consciously seeing takes an act of intention to be open to viewing the familiar with different eyes. Of looking deeper and noticing connections. Feeling what we see, that causes us to respond from a different place.

Small acts of disruption start when we realise that what we normally see may not be the full reality. And being open to doing something about it.

I’m grateful for Lisa Sharon Harpers piece ‘The Lie at the Root of Injustice’ in Sojourners, for the wake-up call this morning.
