Being in this moment of time

While today marks the end of an era, it is also a day like all others.

Where we make a multitude of small choices that tilt our lives in one direction or another.

And as I write, I am looking at John O’Donohue’s words from his blessing for Matins

May I live this day

Compassionate of heart,
Clear in word,
Gracious in awareness,
Courageous in thought,
Generous in love.

These are words I want to live by, to take into each moment.

And for perspective, I’ve returned to the poem I drafted for Saturday’s post with the benefit of further work:

Time is our basket of nows,
  the concertina of presents
  experienced as a thread –
  until it isn’t.

The future is not ours to know
and we shall not have the past,
  neither exists in this continuous
  point in time.

Yet here is concrete uncertainty,
  the whisps of everything
  held together with fragile hope
  in exquisitely beautiful
  living form.

Ripples of light
  in the rhythm
  of time.

Finally, on this day especially, I am conscious that we live each moment in company. And I’m grateful you are here – being together in this moment in time.

Thank you.
