I used to think that to ‘be’ was my goal, especially after encountering the phrase attributed to Mahatma Gandhi: ‘Be the change you wish to see in the world.’
Then I started writing.
And that involves digging far deeper into meaning and belief.
So drafting the third part of my book, Quiet Disruptors: Creating Change Without Shouting, I realised that ‘be the change’, whilst laudable, was too binary.
It suggested arrival, that a standard had been achieved.
Yet life, at least in my experience, isn’t like that. And I suspect neither is yours.
We need a different kind of language that exchanges our striving for hope, and our effort for joy, whilst encouraging us to keep pressing forward.
Becoming.
I love this word and all it evokes. It clothes us well our whole life long.
And I offer it to you as a gift.
Perhaps try it on for size.
